I am a Journalist, Content (Marketing) Writer, Copywriter, Photographer and Arabist. I write in Dutch and English on a variety of topics including migrants, minorities, terrorism, the environment, energy, travel, food, business, culture, art and science.
I have written for a wide range of clients, including Al Jazeera English, BBC, The Atlantic's CityLab, Vice, The Sydney Morning Herald, the European Union, Facebook and many Dutch publications like De Volkskrant, De Correspondent, Elsevier and Het Parool. I often take photos accompanying my stories as well.
I have lived and worked in Europe, Asia and Africa. At the moment, I divide my time between Tunisia and the Netherlands, as well as travelling to other parts of the world.
I studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies (I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Radboud University Nijmegen) and Journalism (post-Master from Erasmus University Rotterdam). I also studied Photography at the Fotoacademie Amsterdam, and hold a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
Before starting my current career I worked as a travel author for the Dutch publisher ANWB Media and as a writer and editor specialising in academic research at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I've also worked at the Dutch embassy in Kuwait and the Iraqi embassy in The Hague.
